When entering Lakeside State Airport, the member unlocking the gate must re-lock lock into chain to complete the loop. The last member leaving the field is responsible for storing away the air traffic field radio, windsock, and locking the clubhouse, closing and locking all gates upon exiting.
When we arrive to the field to fly on any given day, retrieve the hand held Motorola air traffic radio from the clubhouse and place it outside in the PIT Area so that any member may hear if a private aircraft announces it is entering the pattern and if it intends to land. Remove the windsock from the clubhouse and erect in the designated location as it alerts full size aircraft of our presence on that given day and further establishes the flite line. Always be vigilant of any full-size aircraft in the flight pattern. It is mandatory you land your aircraft the moment a full scale pilot announces his or her intentions to land or if there is visually an aircraft in the pattern that may be intending to land.
Flying at the field is restricted to club members and their guests, provided the guest has a current AMA card on their person.
Cars will be parked in designated area only.
Flight boxes and models being prepared for flight shall be restricted to the pit area. A fire extinguisher will be on prominent display prior to starting any fuel model engine.
Taxiing on to the runway from forward of the pit is allowed, taxiing back into the pits is not. The aircraft must be stopped below the berm, shut down and retrieved.
(Applies to Non-Spektrum Radios) All transmitters must display its correct frequency number.(Applies to Non-Spektrum Radios) Possession of a frequency pin is required before transmitter is turned on. Pin time shall be limited to 20 minutes.
When engines are run up in the pits, keep bystanders out of the propeller arc.
Do not aim prop wash at other modelers or models.
Extended running of engines in the pit area for break in purposes is not allowed. All engine break in running will be done at far Northeast corner of pit area on engine test stand.
Spectators are welcome but must remain in the designated area behind the pit line. This also pertains to family members not involved with actual flying.
No engine running or aircraft flying is allowed before 8:00 am Monday thru Saturday and 9:00 am on Sundays.
No person shall fly alone at our field.
B. MODEL REQUIREMENTS
All models must comply with AMA safety requirements (rounded spinners or spinner nuts, no metal props, no knife edge wings, etc.)
All models are subject to a safety inspection by a club or safety officer. New or repaired models should be inspected before flight.
Any radio newly installed in a model or having been in a model during a crash shall be range checked before flight.
All internal combustion engines over .05 cubic inch displacement shall be equipped with a muffler and meet or exceed AMA guidelines for Db.
Use of approved nylon propellers are permitted on engines over .15 cubic inch
Taxiing a model through the pit area is prohibited.
Take offs and landings must be made only on the active runway.
Hand launching is permitted only at the berm, away from pits.
If a model must be carried out onto the runway for a takeoff, this must be previously announced to any other pilots. Members pursuing this practice must promptly clear the runway after the model is released.
Pilots’ must fly from the pit side of the runway in the pilot boxes only. No person shall stand on the edge of the runway during any flight operations. Only pilots, instructors, and spotters are permitted forward of the fenced spectator area.
All take-off and landing attempts shall be previously announced to the other flyers.
A landing aircraft has the right of way over an aircraft taking off.
When the engine goes dead in flight, shout “Dead Stick” loudly several times to warn other of the impending landing.
A “Dead Stick” aircraft has the right of way over all other aircraft.
In case of a model malfunction in the air (radio or mechanical) promptly announce the problem to the other fliers in a loud voice.
Any person wishing to retrieve a model from the runway shall announce this intention to the other fliers.
No engine restarts shall be made on the runway.
All flying must take place in the pilot boxes behind the safety line painted on the edge of the runway extended to infinity in both directions.
There shall be no flying over the pit area or over the building of the pit area.
Low passes are not permitted closer to the pilot’s position than the center of the runway.
No more than 4 (four) models are permitted in the air at any one time. This clause may be amended for special events or activities by the club officers, C.D. or majority of those present.
There shall be no flying during runway maintenance operations.
No alcoholic beverages may be consumed by the fliers at the field.
Anything that you bring to or acquire at the field is to be removed when you leave.
Pets shall be confined to the spectator area, tied or on a leash, and shall not be permitted in the impound shack, pits, or the area between the pits and runway.
No person shall attempt to fly a model without being accompanied by an instructor or until a competent flying club member has certified that the person has qualified to fly solo.
All transmitters in use at the field must meet current AMA/FCC regulations.
Engines must comply with noise abatement parameters. Ninety-six dB at nine feet at full throttle. Spot checks will be made by safety monitors.
Failure to follow the listed safety rules, as well as the official AMA Safety Code, can lead to suspension or termination of flying privileges.
At all times material, we co-habitat with full size aircraft at Lakeside State Airport. We must always be vigilant and heed the right of way to full size aircraft. There are no exceptions to this rule. Use of our field aircraft radio is strongly recommend if you intend to fly.
GENERAL: A model aircraft is a non-human-carrying aircraft capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere. It may not exceed limitations of this code and is intended exclusively for sport, recreation, education and/or competition. All model flights must be conducted in accordance with this safety code and any additional rules specific to the flying site.
Model aircraft will not be flown:
In a careless or reckless manner.
At a location where model aircraft activities are prohibited.
Model aircraft pilots will:
Yield the right of way to all human-carrying aircraft.
See and avoid all aircraft and a spotter must be used when appropriate. (AMA Document #540-D.)
Not fly higher than approximately 400 feet above ground level within three (3) miles of an airport without notifying the airport operator.
Not interfere with operations and traffic patterns at any airport, heliport or seaplane base except where there is a mixed use agreement.
Not exceed a takeoff weight, including fuel, of 55 pounds unless in compliance with the AMA Large Model Airplane program. (AMA Document 520-A.)
Ensure the aircraft is identified with the name and address or AMA number of the owner on the inside or affixed to the outside of the model aircraft. (This does not apply to model aircraft flown indoors.)
Not operate aircraft with metal-blade propellers or with gaseous boosts except for helicopters operated under the provisions of AMA Document #555.
Not operate model aircraft while under the influence of alcohol or while using any drug that could adversely affect the pilot’s ability to safely control the model.
Not operate model aircraft carrying pyrotechnic devices that explode or burn, or any device which propels a projectile or drops any object that creates a hazard to persons or property.
Free Flight fuses or devices that burn producing smoke and are securely attached to the model aircraft during flight.
Rocket motors (using solid propellant) up to a G-series size may be used provided they remain attached to the model during flight. Model rockets may be flown in accordance with the National Model Rocketry Safety Code but may not be launched from model aircraft.
Officially designated AMA Air Show Teams (AST) are authorized to use devices and practices as defined within the Team AMA Program Document. (AMA Document #718.)
Not operate a turbine-powered aircraft, unless in compliance with the AMA turbine regulations. (AMA Document #510-A.)
Model aircraft will not be flown in AMA sanctioned events, air shows or model demonstrations unless:
The aircraft, control system and pilot skills have successfully demonstrated all maneuvers intended or anticipated prior to the specific event.
An inexperienced pilot is assisted by an experienced pilot.
When and where required by rule, helmets must be properly worn and fastened. They must be OSHA, DOT, ANSI, SNELL or NOCSAE approved or comply with comparable standards.
RADIO CONTROL (RC)
All pilots shall avoid flying directly over unprotected people, vessels, vehicles or structures and shall avoid endangerment of life and property of others.
A successful radio equipment ground-range check in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations will be completed before the first flight of a new or repaired model aircraft.
At all flying sites a safety line(s) must be established in front of which all flying takes place. (AMA Document #706.) (a) Only personnel associated with flying the model aircraft are allowed at or in front of the safety line.
At air shows or demonstrations, a straight safety line must be established.
An area away from the safety line must be maintained for spectators. (d) Intentional flying behind the safety line is prohibited.
RC model aircraft must use the radio-control frequencies currently allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Only individuals properly licensed by the FCC are authorized to operate equipment on Amateur Band frequencies.
RC model aircraft will not knowingly operate within three (3) miles of any pre-existing flying site without a frequency-management agreement. (AMA Documents #922 and #923.)
With the exception of events flown under official AMA Competition Regulations, excluding takeoff and landing, no powered model may be flown outdoors closer than 25 feet to any individual, except for the pilot and the pilot’s helper(s) located at the flightline.
Under no circumstances may a pilot or other person touch an outdoor model aircraft in flight while it is still under power, except to divert it from striking an individual.
RC night flying requires a lighting system providing the pilot with a clear view of the model’s attitude and orientation at all times. Hand-held illumination systems are inadequate for night flying operations.
The pilot of an RC model aircraft shall:
Maintain control during the entire flight, maintaining visual contact without enhancement other than by corrective lenses prescribed for the pilot.
Fly using the assistance of a camera or First-Person View (FPV) only in accordance with the procedures outlined in AMA Document #550. (c) Fly using the assistance of autopilot or stabilization system only in accordance with the procedures outlined in AMA Document #560.
Must be at least 100 feet downwind of spectators and automobile parking when the model aircraft is launched.
Launch area must be clear of all individuals except mechanics, officials, and other fliers.
An effective device will be used to extinguish any fuse on the model aircraft after the fuse has completed its function.
The complete control system (including the safety thong where applicable) must have an inspection and pull test prior to flying.
The pull test will be in accordance with the current Competition Regulations for the applicable model aircraft category.
Model aircraft not fitting a specific category shall use those pull-test requirements as indicated for Control Line Precision Aerobatics.
The flying area must be clear of all utility wires or poles and a model aircraft will not be flown closer than 50 feet to any above-ground electric utility lines.
The flying area must be clear of all nonessential participants and spectators before the engine is started.

The club we now call “The Bay Area RC Fliers” has been around Coos Bay/North Bend since the 1970’s and was reorganized in the 1980’s. AMA Charter #1637. The Bay Area RC Fliers are a group of people who love to build, fly, and discuss radio controlled model aircraft.
All AMA and club members in good standing, are protected by liability insurance through their charter and their club dues. However, for insurance to be in force, the club and the members must adhere to the by-laws and safety rules established, by The AMA, and each club must establish rules for its flying sight. Each member is provided a copy of the BARCF Field Rules and BARCF Safety Codeand are expected to comply with them.
Club and AMA Dues:

Annual Membership dues in the Bay Area RC Fliers are $50 annually with youth memberships being free for people under the age of 18. The fiscal year for BARCF begins July 1st of each year, and dues are pro-rated to accommodate new members joining after July 1st at $4.25 per month. Our grassy runway measures approximately 360 feet by 65 feet, and is on Public Land, leased by the club from The City of Lakeside. Lakeside State Airport-9s3 to be exact, where we co-habitat with our full scale brothers and sisters. This a low usage grass field so it is a great relationship between model and full size aircraft. The field is maintained, our portion that is, by the membership and is under the supervision of the Club Field Marshall, an elected officer in the club. As a part of our agreement with the Lakeside State Airport, the front gate must remain closed while we are flying and must remain locked when we leave the flying field for that particular day.
If you have flown with us in the past, please note we are flying from a new location as of June, 2016. We are proudly located at the Lakeside State Airport-9s3, in Lake side Oregon. 400-668 Airport Way, Lakeside, OR 97449. Click here for driving directions.You will enter the second driveway, from Airport Lane, by the hangars, on the East side of the runway. Our runway parallels along side of the actual runway with our overfly facing the West. Please keep in mind, this an active State Airport and all though it may be low usage, we must always be vigilant when flying and heed the right away to full size aircraft. We have an aircraft radio at the field for this very reason and require you fly with a friend or spotter. Club members are encouraged not to fly alone. But we have a fly at your own risk policy same as AMA.
When We Fly:
We fly most any day of the week, weather permitting. Weekends are popular among those who work during the week, and retired members fly pretty much anytime there others at the field. Weekdays are often favored by beginners because the field is generally less crowded during the week.
If you are a visiting flyer, please contact a club representative to make arrangements to enter the field when club members are flying. Remember, you must have a current AMA membership card to fly at our facility. For safety reasons, no member or flier is allowed to fly alone at the field.
If you would like to fly and /or build (miniature) model aircraft, we challenge you to join the Bay Area RC Fliers, and share in our sport. If you are a Novice, we have qualified instructors, who can teach you to build and fly safely, with minimal or no damage to your aircraft and ego! Our instructors meet the AMA requirements and are very knowledgeable. There is no charge for this service.
